Scenes from the Book of Ruth are featured on each side of the prayer shawl on wide silk-painted bands.
Band I Scene I
Elimelech, his wife Naomi, and their two sons travel to Moab from Bethlehem, where there is a famine.
Book of Ruth, 1, 2:
"…there was a famine in the land. And a certain man of Bethlehem Judah went to sojourn in the country of Moab, he, and his wife, and his two sons. And the name of the man was Elimelech, and the name of this wife was Naomi."
Band I Scene II
Many years later, a weary Naomi returns to her homeland with her daughter in law, Ruth.
Band II Scene I
Ruth is gleaning in the field of her kinsman, Boaz.
Band II Scene II
Ruth approaches Boaz, who is asleep on the threshing floor.
On the neckband, outlined in gold and written in crowned Hebrew lettering, are the words of Ruth: "Wherever you go, I go; where you rest, I rest; your land is my land, your God is my God".
A matching tallit bag, teffilin bag and kippah are also available. The tallit bag is made of cream wool blend and has a strip of painted silk running horizontally.
The tallit tzitziot (threads) are handspun.
